Kiren Rijiju gave up his position in the law and was replaced by Arjun Ram Meghwal
According to a press release from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 18, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal has been named as the Minister for Law and Justice, and Kiren Rijiju has been transferred to the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
According to the communiqué, the Indian President redistributed the portfolios on the Prime Minister’s advice.
“Shri Kiren Rijiju will be given responsibility for the Ministry of Earth Sciences portfolio.” In place of Shri Kiren Rijiju, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State, will be given the independent duty of Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his current portfolios, the communiqué stated.
While the change is undoubtedly an improvement for Mr. Meghwal, the abrupt declaration is unexpected.
It has been a privilege and an honour to serve as Union Minister of Law and Justice under the direction of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, Mr. Rijiju stated in his Twitter bio, which he changed to reflect the newly assigned Ministry. I express my gratitude to All Supreme Court Judges, Chief Justices of High Courts, Judges of Lower Courts, Members of the Lower Judiciary, and All Law Officers for their tremendous assistance in ensuring that justice is delivered easily and that our residents have access to legal services.
